A Life Of Galileo

For years people have been battling between religion and science. Those who were religous believed that the earth is the center of the world and God is the one and only creator. Those who were scientific believed that the earth had more to it than God, and that there was always a reason for something to happen. They said that in order for them to believe something they had to see it. In a time period Like the one Galileo Galilee lived in,religion was extremely important. Galileo believed that the earth was not the center of the earth. He believed that the moon rotated around the earth and the earth rotated around the sun. this was a huge issue for he was defying God.
Galileo was a poor Italian a philosopher. He wanted to write a book about the earth and its rotation around the sun. In order for him to accomplish this goal he needed money which he did not have. Therefore he stole the idea of  a telescope from Holland and presented it as his own. This stolen invention gained him a lot of money which helped him write his book. Unfortunately they four out that the invention had already been created in holland and the people were not pleased.
Galileo had been doing discoveries to prove that the earth was not the center of the universe. He wanted to prove that the earth was merely a ball that rotated around the sun. This made the roman cardinals upset because this was against their religion. Galileo didn't seem to care that a discovery like this would lead him to death. In fact he was willing to die if it meant that he could prove the world wrong. He planned to show the world that what they thought they knew for 2000 years was only a lie and that what he knew was the truth. This would be a difficult battle. Yet it was a battle that he was willing to fight.
    THE PLAY:
I thought that the acting in the play was good. I liked the projection of the voice and I could tell that they worked really hard. I liked the part of the play where sam fainted. (I honestly thought it was real.) I also enjoyed seeing Galileo perform in as many scenes as he did. It must have been difficult to memorize as many lines as they were required to. When I was watching the play I wasn't able to tell if a person messed up. They seem to know what they were doing and they didn't show any signs of fear while acting.
There were a few things that I thought they could work on. Most of the time when they were talking to each other, their backs were toward the audience. I wasn't able to see their facial expressions most of the time. I also wasn't able to hear a lot of what they were saying because they were speaking extremely fast. I would recommend them slowing down a bit. I would also recommend that they react when others are talking. Like we have discussed before in acting class, it's not true dialogue without facial expressions.
At the end of the play religion seemed to have won. This was a very interesting turn out. I figured that Galileo would win but he ended up being imprisoned until the day he died. His thought was right though. The earth wasn't the center of the universe. (That is true). Earth rotates around the sun.(That is also true.) The goal of the play was to have us question our selfs. They wanted us to do something about the world. Although I have a religious aspect to things, I will make sure to keep my eyes open to other suggestions.

Overall this was an amazing play. I enjoyed it. I know it must have been hard but they did a great job. I look forward to the next show. Yaayyy..

Scene works

The two scenes that I am doing is different than anything that I am use to. It was a project that required me to reach out of my comfort zone and try new things. I was use to acting with my sister on dramatic pieces, but Ofcourse she isn't here and I couldn't do it with her. I use to only memorize one scene and focus on it, but this year I pushed myself on memorizing two. The people that I have to act out in this scene are extremely different from each other so I must prove that I can change character.

  #My Facial Expressions
When it comes to acting my facial expressions are key. I can't just sit there and say the words I have to feel what I am saying. When my partner is speaking it is important that I react to the words that she is saying. If I don't, it will just look like people reading scripts. Acting is based on dialogue, but the facial expressions are what make the dialogue seem important. For example, if you are saying a dramatic line and smile while saying it, the audience might think of it as a joke. You see, this is where facial
expressions are key.

#Memorization
I didn't spend a lot of time memorizing my scene. When we went over it in class I had most of it stuck in my memory so It was good for me when we read it without scripts. I thought that I wasn't going to know any of my lines, but to my surprise I knew most of it. When it comes to memorizing, you don't always have to know the words 100%, you just have to know the concept of the scene. I also believe that while you are memorizing you should think of how you should say the lines with emotion. The more you practice with emotions the better.

#Backstory
Every person has a back story, even the characters that you are portraying. It is important that you make up a backstory for your character so that you can really become your character. It is important to have a reason for why your character acts the way that they do. Their back stories show who they are as a person and you will feel more connected with the character. You can make anything up for the character, like their favorite drink, their favorite things to do. All of this, no matter how ridiculous it might seem to others, it is what helps you grow as an actor.

#Working With Others
When I first found out that we would have to be working on this scenes with others I was terrified, but I was also relieved. I was terrified because I didn't know if I would be able to keep up with my partner. I feared that I would bring them down. On the other hand I was relieved because all the pressure wouldn't be on me. It would be a balance. My acting will help her continue and vise versa.
#Overrall
Overall this has been a great experience. I learned more about who I am as an actor and I am looking forward for you all to see me in action. I will make sure to keep everything in check. I'm not scared anymore, I'm just ready to get the show on the road. 😄
